Are you an optical engineer and want to apply your knowledge and skills in a diverse range of projects, together with other experienced colleagues? Then you are the engineer we are looking for!
About Demcon
Each one of our companies differentiates itself in its own domain with unique expertise and skills. This way they help customers improve their performance and achieve more. On the basis of their passion for technology our companies are able to combine forces. By sharing knowledge and working together we increase our social impact.
Demcon high-tech systems is a multidisciplinary development and engineering partner for mechatronic challenges, from concept to realization, in the field of high-tech systems. We also work closely with Demcon Focal, which develops optomechatronic systems and complex vision applications
What are you going to do?
As an optical engineer, you translate the functional system requirements of an optical system into an optical design. You do this within a multidisciplinary project where you constantly interact with other disciplines, such as mechanical and systems engineers.
In the first phase of a project, you analyze the client’s wishes and requirements and come up with a concept design. A variety of optical components might need to be implemented in the system.
With calculations and a rough optical model, you can determine to what extent the optical requirements are met and assess technical risks. We use design tools such as Ansys Zemax for this. Depending on the risks, a trade-off is made under the guidance of the optical architect or systems engineer to come to a final concept design.
In the subsequent phases, such as detailed design, assembly, and testing, you dive into the details and work out the optical design in detail. During the integration and testing phase, you integrate the optical components into the larger system and verify/validate the optical performance.
The products you work on always include precise optics, with applications ranging from products in the semiconductor industry to astronomy. Specifically, you will start by developing free-space optical/laser communication modules for satellites.
What do you bring to the table?
- Completed a BSc or MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, Aerospace Engineering, or similar.
- You have at least 3 years of relevant work experience as an optical engineer in a multidisciplinary environment.
- You have the ability to work independently and have the communication skills to explain your work.
- You have knowledge of Ansys Zemax or similar optical design software.
- You have fluent command of the English language.
What do we offer you?
At Demcon we have a ‘flat’ organization where people can easily find and help each other. We value a comfortable and inclusive workplace. There is a lot of emphasis put on personal needs and we discourage overtime, because we know how important work-life balance is.
Furthermore, you can count on, among other things:
· A good, market-based salary;
· 31 days off and 8% vacation allowance;
· Possibility to work from home, maximum 2 days a week.
· A good pension plan at Zwitserleven;
· The opportunity to follow training and courses through the Demcon Academy, or externally, so you can further develop your knowledge;
