Live app design and prototype for athletes
About Demcon
At Demcon JOHAN Sports, GPS & heart rate trackers are made for football & hockey teams to let athletes increase their performance and prevent injuries. The system collects data using trackers that communicate via Bluetooth during matches and training sessions. This data is used during training sessions and matches to monitor the fitness and load of the players, in the form of heart rate, sprint distance, number of sprints, etc. The data is sent by the trackers via a hub to a live app on the tablet of the coach or directly from tracker to a tablet or phone for individual use. After a session the data is uploaded to an online web environment, where performance trends over multiple sessions can be analyzed. More than 125 teams from 28 countries use this platform.
The current live app is designed to give analysts and trainers insight in the performance of a whole team. However, the trackers are also used by individual athletes when they train elsewhere. Adaptions to the live app remove team functionality not applicable for individual athletes, in a pragmatic way. However, the app is not designed to match the use-flow of the individual athlete and provide them with relevant insights.
What are you going to do?
The assignment is to investigate how the current live-app can be adjusted for usage by individual athletes. Currently the live app is used by the team analysts and trainers, such that it is displaying data for a whole team. Additionally, the analyst and trainer process the data in an online web app. The current live app for individual athletes is a restricted version of the team live app. The assignment is to design a live app that is targeting individual athletes as well as the analyst and trainer, whilst considering that similarity with the current live app is desired to significantly increase overall maintainability and leverage design efforts. Additionally the athletes also use a so-called RPE (rate of perceived exertion) app, to track injuries. Integrate the RPE app in the live-app in a convenient way is desired. The assignment consists o
Identify features and layouts that are desired by individual athletes, by questioning users and making an overview of similar apps. Give priorities to features based on usefulness, complexity and alignment with current live app.
- Creating user stories for individual users to indicate usage by individual athletes for specific cases.
- Integrating the RPE app in a convenient way in the overall user flow
- Design of a live app that is targeting the coach, analyst and athlete. Investigating how we can combine it with our current live-app.
- Develop a working prototype of the new live-app
What do you bring to the table?
- Experience with React, React-Native and application design for IOS or Android
- Experience in UI design in Figma
