During this 6-month internship, you will, together with a fellow intern, modify an existing 6-DoF stage, with accuracy in the order of nanometers, so that it can serve as a transportable demonstrator: 

• You will adjust the stage so that it is transportable and no longer needs to be on a vibration isolation table. Demonstrate that no vibration isolation is needed or implement a transportable vibration isolation functionality, using dynamic analysis. 

• Redesign the existing frame so that it is transportable. 

• Assembly of the new design. 

• You will retune the control system so that it remains stable without vibration isolation, applying dynamic analysis before and after you remove the stage from the vibration isolation table. 

• You will write a ‘show’ program and a GUI with Python or Matlab/Simulink to demonstrate what the stage can do in a trade fair environment. 

With the work performed, it is possible to write a full-fledged internship/graduation report. You will have the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience, and there is a suitable internship compensation in return. Note that this assignment is devised for 2 interns. In case only one intern can be assigned, the scoping of the assignment will be revised in consultation with the intern.

• An HBO or University-level of thinking  

• Education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or Systems & Control 

• You can work with Matlab and Simulink 

• You can work with Solidworks (CAD) 

• You have practical experience in designing control systems 

• You have experience or at least an affinity with dynamic analysis
